In 1992, Grecotel became the first Mediterranean hotel group to form an environment and culture department in its head office.
It is probably the only resort hotel group worldwide to employ a professional environmentalist and agronomist to develop organic produce and eco-friendly garden. Initiatives, to reduce the environmental impact from the hotels operations have been taken in all Grecotels.
REDUCE, RE-USE & RECYCLE
If you don’t want to create rubbish - don’t buy it! If you can re-cycle – separate it! And then look at everything else to see if you can re-use it!

SOME OF THE GRECOTEL RESULTS FROM WASTE MANAGEMENT SINCE 1994 ARE:
-
Recycled 70 tonnes of paper, thus saving 1200 trees and 2240 m³ of water – enough to supply a town of 18,000 inhabitants for one day. Also the electricity saved (287,000 kwh) would power a 250-bed hotel for one summer season.
-
Recycled 18,000 batteries thus avoiding water pollution (7,200,000 m³) = enough to supply 120 hotels with 400-beds for one summer season.
-
1,600,000 glass bottles have been returned in the last ten years. The energy saved could power a 100-watt light bulb for 1460 years.
…and many more amazing savings to make Grecotel a really eco-friendly hotel chain. Ambassadors will explore these and many other sustainable living guidelines to reduce their ‘footprint’ (impact) on the earth’s fragile ecosystem. |
